Fast and reliable internal logistics for a new hospital
The Royal Eminence Hospital & Hotel is currently under construction in Abuja. Its development is not only focused on delivering healthcare today, but also on creating the infrastructure needed to keep processes efficient and reliable in the future.Internal logistics play an important role in this. Every day, hospitals need to transport diagnostic samples, medication and other materials between different departments. As distances within a hospital increase, manual transport not only takes time but also takes healthcare professionals away from their most important task: caring for patients.
That is why Telecom's pneumatic tube system is being integrated into the hospital's logistics infrastructure from the construction phase onwards.
Efficiently bridging large distances
The new hospital consists of multiple departments that need to be connected quickly and reliably. With more than a kilometre of planned tubing, the system will cover considerable internal transport distances.
Without automated transport, hospital staff would have to cover these distances themselves, or additional personnel would be required to move materials throughout the building. Particularly for frequent and time-critical transports, this can consume a significant amount of valuable time throughout the day.
Saturn stations as access points to one integrated network
Together with our local partner
AV-TEC, an extensive Telecom pneumatic tube system is being realized.
Saturn stations will be strategically positioned throughout the hospital and connected through the tube network.
This will enable staff to send and receive materials directly from their own departments, without having to physically transport them through the building.
The Saturn station is designed for environments where frequent use, reliability and ease of operation are essential. Automatic sending and receiving, controlled carrier arrival and intuitive operation make the station particularly suitable for the daily logistics of a hospital.
Full RFID+ for smart internal logistics
The complete system will be equipped with our RFID+ technology.
Each RFID+ carrier has its own unique identification, allowing the system to automatically recognize individual carriers. This supports a controlled transport process and creates opportunities for further automation and Track & Trace throughout the network.
For the Royal Eminence Hospital, this means combining speed with control and traceability.
More time for care, less time spent on transport
The true value of a pneumatic tube system is ultimately not measured by the number of stations or kilometres of tubing, but by the logistical movements it takes over every day.
The objective is to create a standardized logistics infrastructure that is available 24/7 and capable of growing alongside the hospital's future needs.
By incorporating the pneumatic tube system during the construction of the hospital, the infrastructure can be aligned with the building layout, logistics processes and future workflows from the very beginning.
Local expertise, backed by the Netherlands
For Telecom, an international project involves much more than simply supplying equipment. For the local implementation and support of our systems, we work with specialized partners around the world.
In Nigeria, we do this together with
AV-TEC, our local partner. AV-TEC combines local market and project knowledge with expertise in engineering, systems integration, installation, testing and commissioning. Telecom supports this local expertise directly from the Netherlands with more than 75 years worth of system knowledge, engineering, manufacturing and technical support.
For the Royal Eminence Hospital, this provides an important combination: a local partner close to both the project and the end user, backed by the knowledge and experience of the manufacturer.
An important first step in Nigeria
The Royal Eminence Hospital & Hotel marks an important milestone for Telecom: our first Pneumatic Tube System in Nigeria.
Together with AV-TEC, we are taking an important first step into a new market while demonstrating how automated internal logistics can become an integral part of a hospital's infrastructure from the earliest stages of its development.
The exact configuration will continue to be refined throughout the project to match the hospital's final layout and logistical requirements. The objective remains the same: to create a reliable and future-ready network that will allow important materials to move quickly and in a controlled way throughout the hospital.
A prestigious first project, an important milestone in our partnership with AV-TEC and another step in the continued expansion of Telecom's global network.
